Alexander Retief (verified owner) –
My favourite boot so far. Chunky zero drop sole, tough leather, roomy toe box. Excellent boots, my favourite so far! Some background. Coming from Vivos, altras and owning the original Barefoot African Ranger (BFAR) almost 3 years now I was excited to try these out. I’ve already had my original BFAR resoled once. Sizing: When I bought the original BFAR, I went with the size as per the sizing chart which for a 27cm foot = 9UK, but I found my toes way too squashed in the rounded toe box. I eventually settled on a size UK10, which gave my toes enough space. Now to the AnatomX BFAR, I decided to once again try the size UK9 and they’re perfect! My big toe can lie straight, without curving inwards, meaning the length of the shoe can be shorter, while giving my toes plenty space. I wear them with thick Injiji trail toe socks that allow my toes to spread very comfortably. The sole is thicker and should last longer than the BFAR, the leather is stiffer, more premium, but stronger, and the collar is tighter but loosening up with wear. They feel more like a boot than the BFAR. My only complaint on an otherwise perfect boot is the large internal volume. The width is fine, but I can’t get the snug hold around my mid-foot ideal due to the large volume, even when cranking laces as tight as they go. I’ve since added a JG leather kiltie and a 3mm innersole and the fit is now perfect. If you read this review Jim Green, could you make the volume slightly less, or space the lace eyelets further apart so I can crank them down tighter, or supply Anatomx shaped inner soles? Thanks for an excellent home grown product.
