This is a wonderful shoe. The tan is a beautiful colour, the wide fit around the toes is perfect for someone with wide, flat feet, and the build quality is great for the price. All in all, it was an amazing purchase that I will cherish for years to come.

Generously thick full grain leather, a shoe that lasts, love the thickness of the sole, symbolic of a life time foot partner.

My rating continues to be 5 stars.
As I said before when I first got the Vellies I wore them without socks and without my orthotics, just casual wear.
Starting 27 July thru 18 September I wore them every day and walked 269 miles with socks and orthotics. My USA made Chippawa boots are size 10.5 and the Jim Green’s are size 10. Without socks and orthotics they feel too big but with the socks and orthotics they were perfect.
The Vellie sole is better in my opinion than the Gumlite that came on the Chippawa. I was only able to get 726 miles on the Gumlite soles before needing to have them resoled. The Vellie sole looks like it could far exceed that. With 269 miles on them I would say they could easily go 1,000 miles.
Great boots – get a pair!

I have been looking for an affordable ankle/chuka/desert boot for some time
and found the Jim Green Vellie. They are offered by Amazon in the USA but in
suede which I do not like. I contacted Jim Green in SA and after some
difficulty paid for a pair of the tanned leather Vellie. They are a great
company to work with in getting what you want sent to the USA.
I am wearing the boots as is traditional in SA, that is to say without
socks. Have been out and about only three times with them so far but each
time has been better as the boots and my feet become better acquainted. In
about a month I’ll be sending my daily walking boots off to be resoled and
the Vellies will take their place until I get them back. I’ll update this
review if deemed necessary at that time.
Right now I have to say the Vellies are great, get a pair!
Bragging rights here, I’m the first person in the USA to buy a pair of
[...]tanned leather Vellies.
