The Rugged African Trooper Boot: Built Tough
Introducing the new Rugged African Trooper boot, a collaboration between Jim Green Footwear and Rose Anvil. A new variation of our Barefoot African Troopers with a twist of added durability. These boots are built to tackle any terrain with added comfort thanks to our Veg Tan leather midsole. This new collaboration not only brings together the history of Jim Green and knowledge of Rose Anvil but also the traditions of American and South African boot-making techniques.
The Rugged African Trooper boot combines style, comfort and durability into the ultimate outdoor boot. Its sturdy design and high ankle support provide necessary protection, while the spacious toe box allow your feet to move comfortably.
With a mixture of our smooth Nubuck leather and rough out Nubuck leather, this boot is designed for any terrain. The rough out leather vamp and heel counter allows for you to go through life without worrying about scuffing up your boots. The added benefit of a smooth finish Nubuck on the boots quarters is a beautiful patina that will come with time and wear.

Alexander (verified owner) –
This is an absolute killer. It looks fantastic, and walks great too. I really hope for JG that this boot stays in their range for decades to come, and becomes a really big seller.
The combination of the STC last and the double lasting creates a nice tall toebox. Coupled with the toespring of this last really makes for a handsome boot. I hate the way the zero-drop boots look, and I think it is amazing how much of an impact a different last can have on what is essentially the same upper as used for the barefoot troopers.
When fresh the rough-out leather on the toebox looks almost like fur, and it takes wax quite well.
I do have two gripes with it though;
[...]– The eyelets at the top are useless. I understand that this is a classic American boot thing, but I would have much preferred another set of speedhooks. Getting the laces through the eyelets whilst keeping them under tension is a pain in the neck, and so I don’t even bother with them.
– For someone with narrow feet and thin(ish) ancles, the boots are a bit too wide, especially in the heel (for the rest of the boot the space is perfect). My heel on my right foot just does not want to stay in place, no matter how tight I tie the boot down. I can only hope this improves as I break them in more. This coupled with the plastic heelstay being smaller than the internal leather heel counter creates a irritating point where I can feel the edge of the plastic heelstay on the side of my heel as my foot is pressing into it sideways.
